Today’s prompt was “button jewelry” and we found out today that the prompts came from Barbara Ann Kipfer’s book “14,000 Things to Be Happy About”. I liked that he picked a happy book.

Well, today is the last day of 2018’s National Haiku Writing Month. How do you think I did? I will probably go back to sharing haiku only on Mondays now. I will try to share some of my longer poetry next week. Be sure to check back on Tuesday!

How did you do? Link to your blog below if you posted your haiku to your blog.

Day 27 NaHaiWriMo 2018

power outage
eating ice cream outside
after the storm

Today’s prompt was “rainbow jello” so another food prompt. Storms are hard, but when the rain stops and the sun finally breaks through, you get to see the beauty of things again.

Day 26 NaHaiWriMo 2018

when you’re sick
homemade soup makes it better
wilting flower

Today’s prompt was “homemade soup” which was easy to write for. I have tried to not be so on the nose this year, but today I’m feeling pretty lousy so this was the best that I could do.

Day 25 NaHaiWriMo 2018

a dress
with a fluffy skirt
blooming rose

The prompt from Facebook was “dressing up.” This is where I always get my prompts for National Haiku Writing Month.

I was very ill on Sunday and I still don’t feel great today, but seeing as there are only 3 days left of NaHaWriMo I wanted to get my posts up.

Day 24 NaHaiWriMo 2018

aches and pains
asking about grandma’s remedy
herb garden

Today’s prompt was “hot-water bottle” and I didn’t know how many people would know that Tylenol comes from Willow bark so I wrote about herbs instead. I do not try to write in 5/7/5 some of my poems just come out at that number. I do try to always write short, long, short but the words come the way they come.

Day 23 NaHaiWriMo 2018

all of the donuts
that I cannot eat this week
pruning season

Today’s prompt was “raspberry, orange, pumpkin, lime, coffee, chocolate, or cherry chiffon pie” which I just loved! So much variety and people have done beautiful things with it.

I wish Twitter was more alive on the haiku front. The haiku poets used to find each other and encourage each other on Twitter, but they haven’t been this month, or before then either. Then there were big problems posting to Facebook this year during NaHaiWriMo and not everyone could understand how to work around to post and encourage through comments. Hopefully, next year is better, but a big thank you to everyone who took the time to look through the visitor posts and react to my poems and leave me comments!!

Day 22 NaHaiWriMo 2018

the first time my son
didn’t want to go hiking
frost on new growth

Today’s prompt was “first frost” and I wanted to write about something getting nipped in the bud, as frost often kills things.

Posting every day is just not for me. So while I am able to write and post my haiku poems to the Facebook page, I will probably post every 2 days or so.

Day 21 NaHaiWriMo 2018

hot appetizers
the gossip just as hot
girl’s night out

Today’s prompt was “appetizers”. I usually do pretty good with food, but I had a hard time writing a haiku for this one. Have you been writing haiku for National Haiku Writing Month?

Day 20 NaHaiWriMo 2018

writing while he drives
sailing across the plains
in an iron wagon

Yesterday’s prompt was “a gentle rocking motion”. I took my mom to her 2nd Chemo, which means she is halfway done! I am not sure, but this may be a senryu since there isn’t really a nature element. Is sailing nature?

Today’s prompt was “the rub-a-dub of a washboard”. I figured everyone would write about laundry so I wrote about washing something else.

I have been enjoying my Sundays and not posting. I am writing though. Yesterday’s prompt was “obi sash”.

Day 17 NaHaiWriMo 2018

dad cutting the hay
playing dodgeball with the clouds
Murphy’s Law

Today’s prompt was “washing a car to make it rain” and I immediately thought of my dad. My mom’s dad used to call my mom during hay season and tell my mom “Hey, it hasn’t rained in a while, ask Dennis to cut some hay.” Then he would laugh because it never failed, if my dad cut the fescue to make hay, it would rain the next day even though the forecast said no rain. For those of you who don’t know, the plants that get cut for hay must lay and dry on the ground for around 2 days before you can roll them into bales. If it rains on the cut hay, it takes longer and you lose nutrients every day that it lays there. If it started raining during hay season, my Grandpa would call and ask if my dad had just cut hay. Then he would laugh when my mom said yes.

Remember, if haiku isn’t your thing I have several other kinds of poems that I write and share to this blog. Use the category list on to look at my other poems. Just click the name of something that interests you.
