Half a V of Geese

half a V of geese
half the day’s work done
deep in summer
  8-20-15

We are deep in summer. I’ve enjoyed mine, I hope that you have enjoyed yours. My family had some fun, and now we’re preparing to go back to school. School is fun and holds many adventures, but summer is better.

I wrote this haiku for a #writtenriver prompt on Twitter. I am excited to see what this week will bring. It has been a trying year so far, but it may be about to turn around.

Frosted Poetry

tiny icicles,frost,winter,hard grost,iced over,

  Frost

the old man tells us stories

man tells us stories

stories

of when he was

a boy

before the white

stuck

to his face like

hoar frost

I wrote this for a #ShapePoetry prompt on January 15, 2017. The poem’s shape is supposed to remind you of the tiny white frost that sticks up like spikes.

Gnawed Haiku

red cannas flowers,beetles,bugs,pest,

bold red cannas
blossoms bloom all week
despite the gnawing of beetles

Free Verse for National Poetry Month

I wrote this for a prompt from #FieryVerse on January 6, 2017. If you are on Twitter, follow me to see these the same day that I write them. Don’t forget, while it’s easier to like and share on Twitter, you can like and share my blog posts as well.

Endless Winter

  Endless Winter

The sadness

was supposed to last

for one winter

but spring never came.

The snow smothered us

under a sunless sky.

This was written for a #FieryVerse prompt on Twitter on January 23, 2017. I need to get back into the poetry circles on Twitter and start looking at these prompts every day. There are amazing prompts on Twitter every day and I would probably find more to write about if I would look them up. It would also help if Twitter would just show me the tweets as they are posted instead of showing me the tweets of those I interacted with last. Don’t you hate that?

This picture is proof that I can do Pinterest projects and that Facebook is not a total waste of time. Do you ever argue with your spouse about where your child gets certain traits? Sometimes my husband and I can’t decide who he gets his characteristics from because my husband and I have similar temperaments.

I wrote this during National Haiku Writing Month this year.

Cobwebs on My Soul

Cobwebs On My Soul

As I clean here in this quiet house,

I pray to the Lord:

“Lord please knock the dust off of my heart.

help me to be passionate again,

to speak for the hurting souls

who cannot speak for themselves.

Clean the cobwebs off of my soul

and give me a purpose.”

Did you know that the bumblebee should be incapable of flying? Scientists don’t know how they do it.

I have gained weight in the last two years, and I have not lost it. But I have had good changes in my life too. I am surviving. It may not be pretty, but I am surviving in this world.
